When the Stock Market Goes Mad: The Case of RM2

It was my great privilege to speak at The UK Investor Show this year, along with the illustrious bears and short-selling raiders Lucian Miers, Matthew Earl and Gabriele Grego. For my choice of bear tips, I again went for the easy target of Fastjet (FJET) (down by over 70% since I first mentioned it in November 2015), but my new tip was the rarely-discussed pallet company, RM2 International (RM2).

Boohoo goes from “not wildly overpriced” to “looks rather overpriced”

Shares in boohoo (BOO) have continued to storm higher since I covered them last month, and have crossed the psychological 100p mark on an intraday basis following the release of today’s interim results. With a £1.1 billion market cap, it is perhaps time to get off this particular train.

Zoopla - Share sales point to likely overvaluation

Zoopla (ZPLA) shares have performed brilliantly over the past few months, rising from a low around 230p to the current 320p, for a mighty market cap of £1.37 billion. As some highly knowledgeable shareholders lighten their holdings, it might be worth others considering whether such a market cap is truly justified.

Shock RNS sees Newmark cut back to 1.4p, from bad to worse

When I initiated coverage on this website of Newmark Security (NWT) in May, little did I expect that it was about to release a set of profit warnings which would see the share price more than halved! But unfortunately, that is indeed what has happened.

French Connection - Is It Safe?

It’s time for another reference to share blogging supremo Paul Scott, who wrote in some detail on the subject of French Connection yesterday. While I share much of his perspective on this, I wonder if the bulls here might not be overly confident in their belief that the company is safe.

Cenkos profits dry up, shares offer a counter-cyclical proposition

Cenkos (CNKS) attracted plenty of criticism on this website over its dealings in the the Quindell saga. Whatever the rights and wrongs of that case, it’s still worth looking at the company as a standalone investment. It has been profitable every year since listing in 2005, and over that time has produced an unusually attractive stream of dividends and buybacks.

Looking forward to IG's Q1 Trading Update

Commenting on fund manager Ashmore (ASHM) recently, I noted the “dirty little secret” that investors often do better by investing in the financial sector directly, rather than by using the financial sector’s products. In this regard, I mentioned “fund management companies – and the very occasional spread betting company”. At the back of my mind, I was certainly thinking of my old favourite, spread betting giant IG Group (IGG).
